It’s here! It’s the beginning of December which means only one thing, 24 days until Christmas! Today signifies the official countdown meaning we can open up those advent calendars which have been staring at us since we bought them, dust off the decorations and start wishing for snow!
Being a Scandinavian shop it’s only fair we share a few of our festive secrets! Here, Christmas is full of family affairs with so much chocolate and turkey that your diet consists of them for the next week and the clothes you just got no longer fit. A Christmas in Scandinavia is not so different however, they do have a few quirky traditions! Dinner consists of loads of small meals such as meatballs, pickled herring, salmon and ham and to wash it down, shots of schnapps! Singing songs whilst doing so, adult members of the family take shots to help their digestive system (as good excuse as any!)
Also, Christmas day is the 24th in Sweden meaning Christmas comes early! And the best tradition of all? Their equivalent to the Queen’s speech is an hour-long Disney episode at 3pm, somehow I feel like I’m missing out!
Traditions are everywhere at this time of year, in my family we always go for a Christmas Eve dinner followed by a champagne breakfast Christmas morning, posh ay! What are some of your weird and wonderful family traditions?

But before we get too excited, lets not forget the organising and gift buying before the day! Here at Kidsen we have finally completed our beautiful window (see above) and have filled it with some lovely traditional toys! Our Lundby dolls house is a favourite. Popular in Sweden (and here it seems) this gorgeous dolls house will be the ideal gift. Along with all the cute accessories we have, your little one will light up with joy when they see it!
